DC and Marvel, super heroes and the debate of which is the greatest has been an American past time for decades. At least it has for us geeks. My dad was born the same year as Superman and always felt a certain affinity towards the icon. More recently there has been a huge revival if you will, of the comic book stars in Hollywood. Incredibles, Fantastic Four, X Men, Superman, Wolverine, Green Lantern, Hulk, Green Arrow, Iron Man, Batman...
My house is the same. I enjoy the stories and the kids are crazy about super powers. We've often talked about super people, super powers, and how to get them. One of the many lessons of a super hero's life is that with power comes responsibility. But what about when you have NO super powers?
In my discussions with Shane, we have decided the best kind of super hero so far isn't 'super' at all. Iron Man, Green Arrow, Batman & Robin. They aren't aliens, no radio-activity involved, no strange genetic mutations or scientific experiments. Their 'super powers' are things like bravery, education & brains, dedication, honor, friends and purpose. (and a lot of money, granted)
Wouldn't it be awesome if, instead of emphasizing super strength, we lauded super patience? Instead of flight, we saw support enthusiasm or positive outlooks. Laser eyes were beat out by eyes that could see a need and supply it.
How can YOU be someone's super hero this week?

So hey... this is pretty wonderful! (How have I not looked at your blog before?) I love your perspective on super heroes, and I'm excited for the days when my kiddo can become a geek as well :)
